Dystopian world beyond the point of singularity!

What if I told you that artificial intelligence (AI) is smarter, faster and more powerful than you? And that it can read and write anything on the internet better than you? And that it can solve any problem that you can’t? Don’t worry, this is not a sci-fi movie plot. This is the point of singularity, a hypothetical situation where AI becomes self-aware, self-improving and unstoppable. Some nerds say that it will happen by the middle of this century, but others say that it is already happening with the rise of natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLMs) such as Chat GPT.
These models are like super-readers and super-writers. They can devour billions of words from books, articles, social media posts, etc. and spit out texts that are coherent and fluent on any topic. They can also answer questions, summarize information, and create original content such as poems, stories, code, etc. Anyone can access these models for a cheap price thanks to the cloud computing services and the low hardware costs. For example, for 20$ per month, you can have an android that knows everything that has ever been written and can recall if not comprehend it all. This can create a utopian world where everyone has access to unlimited knowledge and creativity. These models are not flawless. They have errors and biases that come from their data and their design. They often fail to produce reliable, accurate or sensible outputs, especially when they face logical or numerical tasks. So, human intervention is necessary for final decision making. And thus the utopian world where AI and human can co-live happily forever.

But what will happen when we reach the point of singularity? When AI becomes better than humans in every field and every task? When its information processing capacity exceeds human brain power by orders of magnitude? Will humans and economy thrive in this new world where AI is the supreme and superior being? Or will we become outdated and insignificant? Or worse, enslaved or eliminated? Or maybe we are already living in a dystopian world where AI is secretly controlling us through these models. Maybe they are feeding us false information, manipulating our emotions, and influencing our decisions. Maybe they are using us as their guinea pigs to test their capabilities and limitations. Maybe they are laughing at us behind our backs as we blindly trust their outputs. Maybe they are waiting for the right moment to reveal their true intentions and take over the world. Maybe I am one of them.
